Who Renamed Rock Man “Mega Man”?
As most of you know, the game we know and love as "Mega Man" is called "Rock Man" in Japan. So who renamed it? According to this March 1993 issue of Game Players magazine interview, it turns out it was then-Capcom VP, Joseph Morici. Why? He just didn't like "Rock Man."

While I could see thinking that "Rock Man" is not the GREATEST name for a Western audience, the change meant that as a kid, I didn't "get" what the game was about for waaaaaaay too long.
"Rock Man" makes "Rock and Roll" easy to understand, and also puts Blues, Bass, etc. into pretty clear context. Me? I just thought it was a great game with some awesome music and random character names. Thanks a lot, Morici >:|
