What are we
doing the very first day we're back in the office for
2010? Why, throwing a party, of course :)
On Monday, January 4th, from 5-8pm, we're
inviting you down to Capcom's San Mateo HQ to play the
final build of Tatsunoko Vs
Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars almost a month
early! We'll have all the insane characters unlocked,
plenty of joysticks, pads, Wii-motes, drinks, pizzas...
well, you get the idea.
But
wait... there's more! What better way to show off the
final build of the game than with special guest Justin
Wong? While most of you may know Justin as the
US SFIV and Marvel Vs Capcom 2 champ, he's also a beast
at Tatsunoko Vs Capcom, and was US representative in TvC
at the Japan's Super Battle
Opera tournament. He'll be on hand to offer
some tips and play some matches, so come on
down.
For any Bay Area residents
that won't be able to visit us in Vegas, this is the
perfect chance to get your fight on, with tips from the
country's greatest fighting gamer.
All ages welcome, so drop ME a message if you can make
it. I'll get in as many as we can, but you'll need an
invitation, so I'll reply to let you know if you're
in!
Tatsunoko Vs Capcom
producer Niitsuma-san has been blogging again, this time
to share his thoughts on seeing his game being played
hard at the big Japanese national arcade
tournament.
While
everyone knows what it's like to play the games, it's a
nice perspective to hear about the hopes and fears of a
producer facing the unvarnished commentary of the best
players in the world, live!
It's been a while since Togeki, but I would like
to tell you how it was.. On August 15th in
Tokyo, The Togeki/TvC tournament was held. I
wanted to see the SFIV event that was held on the day
before, but I had some work to do so I only went to see
TvC.
I had a lot of feedback from
a lot of users, including bad comments as well, so I was
quite nervous: "What if the battles aren't
very exciting?" "What if there are just a lot
of battles with the same characters?" "what if
the tournament isn't interesting?" I wasn't
going to participate in the tournament, but yet I was
very nervous.
Capcom
Unity member Reno has
just posted a video showing off the highlights of this
year's Super Battle Opera. It's a short five minute look
into one of the world's biggest fighting tournaments, so
if you want to see what it's like, now's your chance. You
can find more coverage about the event here,
here,
and here!
Hot new
videos from the recent 5on5 "Shiozawa Cup" tournament.
"What's a Shiozawa Cup?" Glad you asked!
The Shiozawa Cup
was a 5on5 SFIV tournament, held the day before Super
Battle Opera in Tokyo. It seemed to
start as an internet joke but quickly became a reality,
and is named after SFIV project manager and official
Japanese SFIV
blogger Shiozawa-san
(pictured).
In addition
to having an amusing backstory, the tournament was also
filled with top players, all in town for Super Battle
Opera. You can see the US team in action above (Team
"Let's Go Justin" - Ricky Ortiz (Rufus), fLoE (Sagat),
Sabin (Dhalsim), Justin Wong (Rufus), Marn (Rufus) VS
Team "Gachi Muchiri Revenger" - Kuroken @ Potemkin
(Sagat), Aloha (Zangief), Namameso (E. Honda), AC
Revenger (Abel), FZ (Viper).
Reno, our man
in Japan, took the time to write up a great personal
report from his trip to this year's Super Battle
Opera chock full of great details and pics.
For anyone that
doesn't know, SBO is Japan's national fighting game
throwdown, with tournaments on games like Tatsunoko Vs
Capcom, SF3: Third Strike, Fate unlimited/codes, and of
course SFIV. Unfortunately, since the SBO kids
keep a lockdown on all of their videos, Reno's campfire
tales of glorious upsets and amazing underdogs is the
best way you can get in on the action for the next couple
months. Fortunately it's a great read, so check
it out.
His report is so in-depth
that it comes in 3 separate parts on his Unity
blog. Get them here:
This
footage is from a recent SFIV tournament at Tokyo's
"God's Garden"
arcade. It's not Super Battle
Opera, but it does feature much of the top
Japanese talent we'll see in action this weekend at
SBO.
The best thing
about it is that it's got lots of handy labeled bookmarks
so you can skip around to the matches between the players
you most want to see, like Daigo, Oji-san, and
Mago. You also won't be able to miss C. Viper
player Uryo, who puts on a total cross-up
clinic!
In honor of
the upcoming Super Battle
Opera, check out this promotional match between
EVO
2009 SFIV champ and all-around Street Fightin'
legend Daigo Umehara and top Abel player
Shiro.
This one is my
favorite. I won't spill the conclusion, but
Daigo is worth watching pretty much 100% of the
time--amazing stuff.
LA's Denjin
Arcade was packed with hot Street Fighting
action all weekend as players from around the country
competed to represent the US in Japan's Super
Battle Opera event.
If you can believe it,
this picture is not even the finals, but was of the
reaction to an amazing comeback by Mike Ross's Honda
(check the vid below--hotness starts around
6:25)
Despite Mike's valiant efforts, the legendary
Alex
Valle (Ryu) along with Peter Rosas (Viper) took
the title, and will represent the US at Japan's Super
Battle Opera.
Japan has
been aflame with great SFIV lately while they run the
qualifiers for their national showdown, the Super
Battle Opera (less excitingly known as
"Tougeki").
I've been
geeking out and watching the action, and since sharing is
caring, I thought I'd pass along a few featuring one of
my SFIV favorites: FZ's C. Viper!
Visiting Tokyo soon? You
should check out the
AceAttorneyOpera. There's a blog on
the Capcom Japan site by Suzuki Kei talking a bit about
it. They've been busy in production working on a music
video, finishing writing the script, and plenty of
rehearsing and practice. There's a few more pics and some
more info on the official blog. Go take a look. (It's google
translated...)
