As
most of you know, the game we know and love as "Mega Man"
is called "Rock Man" in Japan. So who renamed
it? According to this March 1993 issue of
Game Players magazine interview, it
turns out it was then-Capcom VP, Joseph Morici.
Why? He just didn't like "Rock
Man."
...
While I could see thinking that "Rock Man" is
not the GREATEST name for a Western audience, the change
meant that as a kid, I didn't "get" what the game was
about for waaaaaaay too long.
"Rock Man" makes "Rock and Roll" easy to
understand, and also puts Blues, Bass, etc. into pretty
clear context. Me? I just thought it
was a great game with some awesome music and random
character names. Thanks a lot, Morici

A very talented fan shows
off his skills at playing the Monster Hunter theme on a
synth-piano. This is really quite an amazing piece. My
favorite part starts in at about the two minute mark,
with that memorable theme... I'm just a sucker for great
game music, and Monster Hunter definitely is among some
of the coolest. Thanks to Odnas for pointing this video
out!
Regardless of the hurdles, Capcom USA is hell bent on bringing Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom stateside.
In an interview with VideoGamer.com, Capcom's VP of Strategic Marketing, Christian Svensson, stated that we "should not rule [a North American release] out. That is all I can say right now. I can't say it's happening definitively. I couldn't give you a time frame, but as badly as the fans want it, we want to bring it."
In addition, Svensson once again brought to light various issues holding back a Western release:
"There are licensing issues to contend with," he said. "The Tatsunoko rights are split as far as how they are held in the west. Tatsunoko obviously holds all of the rights in Japan so they can grant all of those characters usage through Japan very easily. But when they license those properties out to various stakeholders in the west, aligning all of those things properly, and to be fair the team that did it is working on something else now, so actually also clawing back the resources to do a localised version, to make any changes that are needed to get through those licensing issues, these are all things that need to be aligned before we can actually profit from this happening."
"The team that did it is a very talented team in high demand. And unfortunately they're not an internal team so we don't have 100 per cent control of saying OK just pull those guys back in. They have their own business to run."
Very comforting to know the guys are still on it. From what I've gathered, TvC is a great game, definetly worthy of a localization. Here's hoping for the best.
MERCS was
really a great arcade shoot-em-up: down-and-dirty, with
all the powerups, mini-bosses, and little suprises that
have become gaming staples. And while this VC
release game is the same, the name has an exciting new
update: "Wolf of the Battlefield: MERCS"
Stay tuned to the great Nintendo oracle
for an exact VC release date, but rest assured you will
once again have your chance to rescue the kidnapped
President (well, ex-President, technically) and save
Zutura! Perhaps predictably, this is
accomplished by killing pretty much everybody. ...just
like real life.
Wolf of the
Battlefield: MERCS: Same great game, 400% more
name!
GameTrailers goes through some great game
trailers for last year, likeGears of War 2,
Grand Theft Auto 4 and tons of other fantastic games.
Resident Evil 5, however, stole their eye. They gave the
RE5 TGS 08 the the trailer of the year award, having keep
them excited for what the game has in store. The
appearances of characters new and old, like Wesker have
them in keen anticipation.
Not too keep tooting our own
horn, but the trailer is number onein XBLs Most
Popular trailers right now. If you're looking to see it
in all it's HD and 5.1 glory, check it out
there!
The
Seattle Times took the time to put up a nice piece on one
of our up and coming titles (and among my personal
must-haves games), Dark Void. They talk about everything
you may have missed out on about Dark Void and why it's
shaping up to be a kick-ass title. Of course, for those
who are hungry for DV info, there's a few juicy bits to
pick out. They spoke with Ed Fries and Jose Perez about
the game and what Airtight as a whole is doing to make
this title a great game. Click
